A report from RentCafe ranks D.C. 8th nationally for the smallest new rentals, with a 54-square-foot decrease over the past decade. Baltimore and Arlington also saw declines, averaging 805 and 809 square feet, respectively. In contrast, the average apartment size in the U.S. increased to 908 square feet in 2024, with Seattle having the smallest at 649 square feet.
